High Foundation Funds New Truck for Power Packs Project
High Foundation
The Power Packs Project empowers families with the education and ingredients to create nutritional meals so that their children may go to school fed and ready to learn. A $55,000 grant from High Foundation made it possible for the Power Packs Project to purchase a 20-foot box truck to assist with large volume pick ups and distributions of fresh, nutritious foods to partner schools and affiliates.

High Foundation recently presented scholarship awards to Keller Dillman and Michael Rogers of Lancaster and Leah Campbell of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, children of co-workers of the High companies. The students have been awarded $20,000 scholarships, which provide $5,000 per year for four years.

High Foundation recently announced the election of two new members to its Board of Trustees.
Thomas T. Baldrige – Mr. Baldrige is President and CEO of the Lancaster Chamber, an organization with over 1,400 members. He has held this position since 2000. Mr. Baldrige is a graduate of Ithaca College and received the designation of Certified Chamber Executive in 2008 from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives.
Hilda Shirk, Ph.D., MSW – Dr. Shirk retired from a career of service and leadership within nonprofit organizations, most recently as President and CEO of Union Community Care (formerly known as Lancaster Health Center), a Federally Qualified Health Center providing medical care, dental care, behavioral health, and social support to over 34,000 patients throughout Lancaster and Lebanon Counties.

The National Steel Bridge Alliance has announced that that the I-91 Interchange 29 Exit Ramp Flyover Bridge in Hartford, Connecticut is the 2022 Bridge of the Year! This is the first year NSBA has presented this award, and it goes to a first-of-its-kind bridge that uses a new approach to eliminating fracture-critical elements by providing load-path redundancy via a triple I-girder straddle bent.

Ron Ford, Elizabeth Ford recognized with the Essence of Humanity Award

Siblings Ron Ford and Elizabeth Ford were recognized with the Essence of Humanity Award at this year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast Experience benefitting Crispus Attucks Community Center in downtown Lancaster. Both Ron and Elizabeth grew up in Lancaster. Ron is a former Lancaster County Commissioner with a political career spanning from 1975 to 2003, and his involvement in the community continues today. Elizabeth retired in 2009 as an Early Care and Education Director for First 5 Alameda County in San Leandra, California, before returning to Lancaster in 2010. She has been the organizing force behind the 7th Ward Oral History Project, an effort to capture the vibrancy of the community in which she grew to maturity.

High Industries transfers its $570 million business to charitable foundation

In a move that will send a company’s profits to community programs, S. Dale High and his family have transferred their shares of High Industries to the High Foundation, the organizations announced Wednesday.
This means the foundation will receive the profits as well as control of the East Lampeter Township-based company. It will send more than $5 million annually to the foundation for programs that address poverty and build up communities where the multi-state company does business including Lancaster County, central Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, and Florida.

When the $65 million High Foundation Fund was established at Lancaster County Community Foundation last fall, it was truly extraordinary. That was just the beginning of S. Dale High’s innovative plan to sustain his legacy of using business and philanthropy to contribute to the greater good of the community.
Today, S. Dale High and the High Family announce the transfer of family ownership of High Industries to High Foundation. This new structure, making High Foundation a major stakeholder of High Industries, will result in millions of dollars of profits being invested into the Lancaster community and other communities where High Industries provides economic investment and employment.
